Scope and Topics of Interest

Submissions are welcomed across the following thematic areas:

AI in Stroke Care

• AI-driven detection and triage of acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, including large vessel occlusion detection and automated neuroimaging analysis
• Machine learning for stroke risk prediction and primary prevention
• AI-enhanced secondary prevention strategies, including risk factor surveillance and remote monitoring
• AI applications in prehospital stroke assessment, telestroke networks, and virtual stroke systems of care
• AI-supported stroke rehabilitation and long-term outcome prediction
• AI in stroke care in rural areas

AI in Cardiovascular Disease

• AI-based prevention and prompt treatment of myocardial infarction
• AI-enhanced electrocardiogram interpretation for early MI detection and risk stratification
• Machine learning models for cardiovascular risk prediction and primary prevention
• AI-guided clinical decision support for acute coronary syndrome management
• AI applications in interventional cardiology, revascularization planning, and post-MI prognostication
• AI in cardiac health in rural areas

AI in Infectious Disease

• AI-powered pathogen detection, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, and antimicrobial stewardship
• Machine learning for outbreak detection, epidemic forecasting, and real-time disease surveillance
• AI-enhanced diagnostic imaging for infectious diseases, such as influenza and COVID-19; global use of large datasets and preparedness for potential future pandemics
• AI applications in vaccine development, clinical trial optimization, and infection prevention and control

AI in General Health and Population Health

• AI for population-level health monitoring, health equity, and social determinants of health
• Predictive analytics for chronic disease management and preventive care
• AI-driven clinical decision support systems across primary and specialty care
• Ethical, regulatory, and implementation considerations for AI in healthcare
• Large language models and generative AI in clinical workflows
• AI in remote patient monitoring, wearable technologies, and digital health

Submission Guidelines

• Manuscripts should be original, unpublished work and must not be under consideration elsewhere.
• All submissions will undergo fast-track peer review.
• Authors should adhere to HCRJ’s standard formatting and referencing guidelines.
• Submissions involving AI model development are encouraged to follow reporting standards, such as TRIPOD+AI, CONSORT-AI/SPIRIT-AI, and MI-CLAIM.

Using AI Tools in Scholarly Research

• AI tools cannot be listed as authors. AI tools, such as chatbots, do not meet the criteria for authorship. They cannot comprehend or fulfill the responsibilities of an author, such as final approval of the version to be published or accountability for the integrity of the work.
• Disclosure of AI tool usage. Authors must clearly state when AI tools have been used in the creation of their manuscripts. This includes providing detailed information about the AI tool used (name, version, model, source) and how it was applied, including query structure and syntax.
• Accountability for AI-generated content. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and originality of content generated by AI tools in their papers. They must ensure proper attribution of all sources, including those produced by AI, and verify that there is no plagiarism.
